We just had a stairlift installed for my husband and absolutely love it. He was having a hard time getting down a flight of steps outside and couldn’t safely leave the house. He uses a power wheelchair when we go out so I thought it made sense to get a ramp installed. I called several installers but a ramp wasn’t feasible in the space we had. We were at wits end and didn’t know what to do.
That’s when we had the good fortune to find Valley Home Medical Supply. They immediately sent out one of their reps, Mynor, who took the time to explain all the options available to me. I was still focused on getting a ramp until Mynor explained that an outdoor stairlift would be the ideal solution for our limited space. A proper ADA ramp would be way too long for the space we had, while a stairlift would occupy the same space as our existing staircase. I didn’t even know they made outdoor stairlifts, so I was happy Mynor made this suggestion. Mynor also agreed to move our existing handrail to make room for the stairlift so our steel security door could open and close without hitting the lift.
I was still trying to decide between a ramp and a stairlift when I saw a commercial on TV for Acorn Stairlifts and decided to call them just to see what they were offering. Acorn insisted our only option would be to leave the steel security door permanently open, which was a terrible idea because we didn’t want to leave our back door vulnerable to break ins.
In the meantime, my husband fell at home and was put in the hospital, so it was imperative that we find a solution to this problem. We rent a duplex and have lived here 30 years. Mynor worked directly with our property manager while my husband was in the hospital which helped expedite everything. Mynor was even kind enough to loan us a portable ramp just in case my husband needed it while we waited for our stairlift to arrive. The outdoor model we needed had to be special ordered and arrived in a little over a week. Mynor came out the very next day to install it with his coworker, Edwin.
Mynor and Edwin are professional and hard working. They took their time removing our existing handrail and ground down the metal posts flush with the surface of the stairs. It was hard work, but when they finished, there was plenty of room for the steel security door to open and close without hitting the stairlift.
We feel lucky that we never moved forward with Acorn Stairlifts because their lifts don’t seems as securely mounted to the stairs like the one Mynor and Edwin installed. The guys drilled multiple holes into the concrete steps and used brackets on each step, so I feel 100% confident our stairlift is completely secure and safe. Acorn wouldn’t have done that - their website insists their lifts can be self-installed, but I don’t see how that’s even possible. There’s no way I could have installed this myself. For sure Acorn’s lift would not be anywhere near as safe as what Mynor and Edwin did for us. The guys took their time and didn’t rush anything. I know this was a hard installation, but they never complained once and clearly take pride in their work.
When everything was finished, Mynor took the time to explain how everything worked. I was worried my husband would be afraid to use the lift, but the moment I sat him down and activated the control, he got a big smile on his face and said, “This is amazing!!” I could tell right away that Mynor and Edwin were proud of the work they had done for him.
This stairlift has made a huge difference in my husband’s quality of life. He used to be afraid to leave the house. Now he looks forward to going for a ride on the stairlift and really enjoys it. I really can’t thank Valley Home Medical Supply enough. Mynor and Edwin are great and didn’t leave a speck of trash behind. The back steps were cleaner when they left then when they started. Even one of our neighbors who is very picky and complains about everything was impressed and said they did excellent work.
Thanks so much guys. You’re the best.
